Personally, I've found aluminium pans to be robust and easier to clean than any other sort! Unless you're willing to invest huge (outrageous) sums in non-stick that doesn't start coming away after the first few uses, that is!

Have you ever cooked with cast iron? We actually prefer to use that for frying when possible. I see that you have a UK email address, what is the availability for cast iron cookware over there like? I mean, it is still easily available here..

It's available but generally outrageously expensive. Living on a tight budget prohibits what's become a "luxury" item. Prices seem screwy, here, with high prices where there is the least justification for them.
