Sweet Biscuits 3 cups flour *** 2/3 cup sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 1/2 cup cold butter, diced 2/3 cup buttermilk 1 tsp vanilla *** This recipe calls for Southern all purpose flour, such as White Lily In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Make a
well in the center of the mixture. Add the buttermilk and the vanilla. Using a fork, stir
until a dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lighly floured surface. Using your hands,
gently knead for 3 or 4 turns. Pat the dough to 3/4 inch thickness. Using a 3-inch
biscuit cutter, cut the biscuits. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake at
450 F for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Makes 12 biscuits Melissa
