Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 1/2 cups quick oats
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs -- slightly beaten
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts -- chopped into pieces
8 oz. dates -- chopped
Cream sugars with butter and shortening in large bowl until smooth.
Beat in oats, vanilla and eggs until well blended. In separate bowl,
combine flour, baking powder and baking soda, mix well. Add 1/2 of
flour mixture to butter mixture and blend well. Add remaining flour
mixture and blend well. Add remaining ingredients and combine
thoroughly. Form dough into ping-pong size balls and place 2" apart
on greased cookie sheet; flatten slightly. Bake 10-12 minutes at 350
or until light brown. Cool in pan 1-2 minutes and place on racks to
finish cooling. Store cookies in airtight container. Yield: 48
