SpareRibs with Apples and Sauerkraut 4 pounds spareribs, trimmed to fit into slow cooker, cut in 2-rib portions 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 2 small red potatoes, sliced 1/4-inch thick 1 small onion, peeled and sliced 2 small red apples, cored and sliced 1/4-inch thick 1 (1-pound package) refrigerated sauerkraut, rinsed and drained 1/2 cup apple cider 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds, coarsely crushed (optional) In large nonstick skillet, brown ribs in oil over high heat. Place ribs in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker. Add potatoes, onions, apples and sauerkraut. Combine vinegar and caraway seeds, if using, and pour over vegetables. Cook, covered, on low 6-8 hours (or on high for 3-4 hours). Makes 4 servings.
