Shrimp and Tomato Pasta

8 ripe plum tomatoes
5 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound large shrimp -- peeled and deveined
2 cloves garlic -- finely minced
1 tablespoon drained tiny capers
1/4 cup slivered fresh basil leaves
Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper -- to taste
8 ounces dried angel-hair pasta
1. Cut the tomatoes into 8 pieces each set aside in a bowl.
2. Place 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and garlic: cook until cooked through, about 3 to 4 minutes, shaking the skillet. Add the tomatoes along with the capers. the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil and the basil. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain and toss with the tomatoes and shrimp. Serve immediately.
Serves 4 as an appetizer. Per serving: 548 calories, 58 g carbohydrates, 33 g protein, 21 g fat, 172 mg cholesterol.
